Trenchevska: We can be stronger as a society if we accept our differences

Skopje, 12 January 2023 (MIA) – We can be stronger as a society if we accept each other’s differences. North Macedonia is a multiethnic and multicultural state, and the current Government has been promoting the concept ‘One society for All’ since 2017. That is what makes us unique, said Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jovanka Trenchevska on Thursday.

Minister Trenchevska spoke at conference titled “Differences – blessing or curse?” organized by CIVIL – Center for Freedom, backed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The goal of the conference, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, is to contribute to social dialogue and the creation of policies and practices to support and upgrade multiculturalism in Macedonian society.

The Government believes in tolerance and inclusiveness, as well as the possibility for every citizen to make decisions in society. The Minister said that, as a social-democratic Government, the policies and laws are based on justice, equality and solidarity.

“The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy has a great portfolio of competences, with the acceptance of differences weaved in. Social inclusion and persons with disabilities are part of this, and we take an equal approach to all citizens,” Trenchevska said.

She also pointed out that the Law on Prevention and Protection against Discrimination is fully harmonized with all European standards so that it can protect all citizens who feel they’re being treated unequally in society. dk/ik/
