Trenchevska: Employers support minimum wage increase in March

Skopje, 18 January 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jovanka Trenchevska said Thursday that the Organization of Employers has supported the minimum wage increase slated for March.

"We held the Economic-Social Council two days ago, discussing the Operational Employment Plan, measures and programmes in 2024 together with employers and unions, so the Government can adopt it later. We tackled the minimum wage increase as of March and employers are satisfied from this model-methodology for the minimum wage increase," Minister Trenchevska told reporters when asked if the wage rise would be an added burden for companies.

She noted that the law on subsidizing private sector companies in raising the wages of their employees is currently in Parliament.

"Maybe a small portion of the employers will not be able to pay the wages and that is why we offer the law on subsidies for wage increase, exempting them from payment of contributions," added Trenchevska.
