Skopje, 6 September 2024 (MIA) - The Ministry of Transport launched Friday a public call for financial support for the introduction of new destinations from the Skopje International Airport and Ohrid’s St. Paul the Apostle Airport for the 2025-2027 period. Funds of Mden 360 million (EUR 5.8 million) have been allocated to that end as part of the three-year program. The deadline for the submission of applications is 10 am on October 7.

“The public call is open and all interested airlines that meet the following criteria can apply: have a certificate that they meet safety conditions for public air transport; have transported at least 5 million passengers in 2023; have made profits of at least EUR 10 million in 2023,” the Ministry of Transport said.

The financial support will be awarded in line with the ranking criteria for new destinations in the following order: period of servicing the destination; number of weekly flights; attractiveness of the airport; the number of seats on offer.

“The financial support will amount to EUR 9 in denars per arriving passenger at the Skopje International Airport, EUR 12 in denars per arriving passenger at the St. Paul the Apostle Airport in Ohrid,” the Ministry said.

The airline that will receive financial assistance is obliged to operate at least two flights a week on each new destination for which it has received assistance, to draft a plan for the promotion and marketing of the proposed destinations and deliver a report to the Ministry of Transport every six months.

The public call has been published in the Official Gazette, the Ministry’s website, as well as in domestic printed media and one foreign media.
