Transport Minister signs Skopje BRT implementation agreement
- Minister of Transport and Communications, Blagoj Bochvarski, signed an agreement Wednesday for the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Skopje, in cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Finance and the City of Skopje.
Skopje, 15 November 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Transport and Communications, Blagoj Bochvarski, signed an agreement Wednesday for the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Skopje, in cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Finance and the City of Skopje.
According to a press release from the Transport Ministry, the implementer of the project will be the City of Skopje, while the funds of EUR 70 million necessary for the realization of the project have been secured through the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia.
The project includes a construction of two new terminals, transport centers, as well as the procurement of new CNG buses.
The BRT system in Skopje is planned to have two lines, the first one connecting the city from the east to the west from Gjorche Petrov to Novo Lisiche, while the second line will run from the north to the south of the city, i.e., from Butel to Pintija. The two lines will intersect in the center of the city.
The Ministry said that through this investment, the Government is implementing its transport policy for efficient and ecological transport in urban areas.
