Trajkovski: State Market Inspectorate to continue stepped-up price controls on the ground

Trajkovski: State Market Inspectorate to continue stepped-up price controls on the ground

Skopje, 13 September 2023 (MIA) - The State Market Inspectorate will continue to work with increased price controls on the ground, in order to protect citizens' standard. I urge all citizens who notice any irregularities to immediately report to the State Market Inspectorate, the director of the State Market Inspectorate, Goran Trajkovski, said after Wednesday's meeting with Minister of Economy Kresnik Bekteshi and heads of the regional departments of the inspectorate.

"I'd like to note that since I was appointed director of this institution, from January 1 until June 21, 2023, 16,000 inspections have been carried out, and more than 3,700 orders worth Mden 140 million have been issued," Trajkovski said.

He pointed out that following the prices, rising inflation and people's reactions over the hiked product prices, the State Market Inspectorate is not competent, nor has any influence over the way prices are formed on the market.

"It can be concluded that food prices are enormously high and if the Government, following a proposal made by the Ministry of Economy, decides to lower those prices, the State Market Inspectorate will act on all subjects, without selection or compromise, as before," Trajkovski stressed.

The State Market Inspectorate, he added, will continue to work with increased price controls on the ground, in order to protect citizens' standard.

"I urge all citizens who notice any irregularities to immediately report to the State Market Inspectorate," said Trajkovski.

He also announced that State Market Inspectorate employees will get a pay rise. ssh/nn/
