Tourism agency starts eco-friendly campaign for waste-free destinations
Skopje, 22 July 2022 (MIA) – The Agency for Promotion and Support of Tourism of Republic of Macedonia (APPT) launches an eco-friendly campaign for waste-free destinations in North Macedonia starting Friday. The campaign will last until November 1 through the agency’s Facebook and Instagram profiles, and 30 destinations under the hashtags #ChistoKakoDoma (#CleanLikeAtHome) and #PastërSiNëShtëpi will be promoted. “The Agency for Promotion and Support of Tourism continuously supports the development of eco-friendly tourism and the growth of sustainable forms of tourism, in parallel with preservation of nature and the environment. Through our communication with the tourist sector and the local governments, we saw the need to raise public ecological awareness and its benefits in the context of clean tourist destinations,” the Agency said. In stage one of raising awareness for a clean environment, they will try to reach the citizens with creative solutions and enticing slogans such as “A destination unfit for growing plastic on beaches!”, “Eradicate trash, it’s not worth stepping on!” and “Don’t plant trash, plant trees for a city that breathes!” Stage two will consist of short videos from certain destinations so that its positive examples reach the citizens. In Stage three, the employees in the APPT’s sectors in cooperation with the local self-government and the citizens with individual actions will reforest the burned down tourist locations in the country. “I call upon all interested institutions, tourism workers and ecologically aware citizens to share the waste-free destinations initiative. Let’s change the view of our country together, so that it’s recognized by foreign tourists as a clean and ecologically sustainable destination. Foreign tourists are not the main polluters of the destinations they visit, the trash wasn’t brought here from another planet,” APPT director Ljupcho Janevski said. dk/ba/
