Skopje, 15 August 2024 (MIA) – The Interior Ministry involving the Blerim Ramadani case has acted in line with the laws in a very professional manner, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski said Thursday reacting to accusations by the opposition SDSM.

“SDSM once again showed that rather than focusing on real problems and offering constructive criticism, it has chosen to accuse for the sake of accusing. In the case with Blerim Ramadani’s escape, the real question is – why the court decided to place the man under house arrest instead of in effective detention,” Toshkovski wrote in a Facebook post accusing SDSM of trying to score political points.

According to him, SDSM with its empty accusations is acknowledging that the former government had left the country in ruins and blaming the new government for everything is a way to manipulate the public. 

“The Interior Ministry in this case acted in line with the law in a very professional manner. The man was taken to court following the Interpol arrest warrant, which is according to the legislation. SDSM should stop with its empty accusations and we will remain focused on real solutions to improve the situation in the country,” he wrote on Facebook. 

Earlier, the Interior Ministry confirmed to MIA that former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) member Blerim Ramadani has escaped from house arrest from the home of his relatives in the country.

Ramadani, who is from Kosovo, last month was arrested on the Kosovo-Macedonian border after an Interpol warrant was issued on Serbia’s request.

After being arrested on July 17 at the Jazhince border crossing, Ramadani was placed in 30-day extradition detention in a Skopje jail.

On August 1, a court ordered house arrest for Ramadani until August 16 in Skopje.

Ramadani’s arrest warrant is based on Serbia’s claims that reportedly Ramadani as former KLA member had committed war crimes in the region of Nerodime.
