Skopje, 4 December 2024 (MIA) — Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski on Wednesday held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Nešić, discussing necessary steps that the two countries should take to move closer to the European Union.
Toshkovski said talks focused on the reforms that the two countries should implement, reaffirming the good cooperation between the police forces and police officers.
"We discussed issues that are of interest to both countries in the direction of the path ahead of us, i.e. implementing all the necessary reforms, taking all the necessary steps to get closer to the European family. That is our only path for both Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina that we need to take in the future… We also discussed topics that are of interest to both countries, as countries where we have transit of illegal migration, we discussed topics related to the creation of a regional training centre and regional conferences of all training centres in the Balkan countries," said Toshkovski.
According to Nešić, crime and corruption are what threatens the security of citizens. He noted that North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are also affected by migration, although migrants neither want to stay in the country nor in BiH.
"These are illegal migrations, as you know, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are also affected by migration. Migrants neither want to stay in North Macedonia nor in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but unfortunately, we are a transit route, and we are facing a security challenge, especially recently when migrants have somehow become violent. Not to mention human trafficking. I also want to point out that our police agencies are cooperating very successfully, that they are breaking down the necessary information and I express my expectation that this cooperation will further improve in the coming period," Nešić said.
