Skopje, 27 December 2024 (MIA) - The Macedonian police will once again be the pride of every citizen and it will once again be an honor to be a police officer, said Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski at Friday's event to present the results of the Ministry of Interior's work in 2024.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who also attended the event, stressed that no one should and must not be above the law and the Constitution.
"The times are no longer as before, we need to fight against all corrupt elements in society and we will fight. Justice may be slow, but anyone who thinks they have outsmarted it, is fooling themselves, for in the end justice always comes and always wins," said Mickoski.
He told members of the Ministry of Interior that no one owes anything to anyone except to the Macedonian citizens and the state.
"Justice is slow, but it always wins in the end. We must show and prove that crime is unprofitable and all those who think that they can do something with crime are fooling themselves, and they will be held accountable before the law and the Constitution," the PM said.
Presenting MoI's results, Minister Toshkovski mentioned the situation with the issuance of personal documents.
"We were faced with chaos. The situation was on the verge of collapse, but with superhuman efforts of everyone involved, we managed to bring order in the issuance of personal documents. Never again will the Macedonian citizen be humiliated with endless queues and time wasted. We have established sustainable solutions through digitalization and automation of the processes," said Toshkovski.
According to him, the digital application for obtaining weapons permits is a reality. A thorough investigation into past abuses in issuing weapons permits has been conducted, and appropriate criminal charges have been filed against dozens of Ministry of Interior employees.
He promised that every service for citizens will be more accessible, more efficient and more transparent, and in this context he mentioned issuance of electronic citizenship.
On the "Safe City" project, he pointed out that it is not just a technical solution, but a vision for a safe Macedonia, regarding which legal regulations are also being changed.
"We are creating a systemic solution that will analyse the two key components, i.e. improving criminal investigations and traffic safety. We expect that in the future, "Safe City" will not only improve safety, but also change the traffic culture and reduce the number of victims, and grow into a safe country in the coming years," Toshkovski said.
He mentioned several police operations carried out as an example of visible results that confirm that the police are free from the constraints of the past.
"The law reaches everyone equally, and it will reach even those who think they can hide. The fight against corruption continues unabated. We are investing in people and infrastructure, renovating key facilities, such as the Training Center in Idrizovo, building several new police stations, and gradually modernizing the fleet with new vehicles," Toshkovski added.
Friday's event also presented some of the equipment used by the police.
