Toshkovski: Injuries from traffic accidents down 20 percent due to Safe City

Skopje, 25 December 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski said Thursday the results from the Safe City project are very positive, with injuries from traffic accidents down by 20 percent after the system's introduction.

"The results are very positive. Let me thank the Macedonian citizens for saving lives, because the number of patients treated for severe injuries at the Skopje-based Clinical Center has dropped by 20 percent since the system has been in use," Minister Toshkovski told a Q&A session in Parliament.

Toshkovski said that although citizens knew they would not be penalized for traffic misdemeanors during the trial period, they slowed down their vehicles.

"We have shown that we are a nation ready to respond to such challenges, implementing a truly European project that aims to protect the people's safety and reduce the number of traffic victims as much as possible," said Toshkovski.

The Minister said that as of February 1, the project will be operational in Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo, as well as Corridors VIII and X, followed by its nationwide implementation by mid-2026.
