Toshkovski honors police officers killed in 2000 ambush

Skopje, 11 January 2026 (MIA) - By laying flowers at the Gazi Baba Police Station, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski paid his respects Sunday to police officers Kiril Petrushevski, Aco Angelovski, and Erol Gotak, who were killed in an ambush near the village of Arachinovo on January 11, 2000.

“Macedonia never forgets its brave sons. Today is the 26th anniversary of the tragic death of police officers and Macedonian heroes Kiril Petrushevski, Aco Angelovski, and Erol Gotak. In 2000, while carrying out a routine polce control at the entrance of the village of Arachinovo, they were treacherously and brutally killed in an ambush. With deep respect for their sacrifice, today I laid fresh flowers at the monument to the defenders at the Gazi Baba Police Station, with a clear message that their heroism will never be forgotten,” Toshkovski wrote in a post on his official Facebook profile.

The Interior Minister stressed the country’s heroes live forever in the collective memory, "while their sacrifice", he said, "remains a lasting legacy for present and future generations".
