Skopje, 6 December 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski alongside Justice Minister Igor Filkov and UNHCR Representative Gabriel Gualano de Godoy visited the reception-transit centre 'Vinojug' in Gevgelija on Friday. 

The delegation was briefed on the regular activities in the reception-transit centre for refugees and migrants, followed by a meeting where several important points were discussed, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

The meeting discussed North Macedonia's commitment to the Global Refugee Forum, improving the status of asylum seekers until 2027, promoting the state system for asylum seekers until 2027, and the urgent need to resolve the legal status of temporary transit centres.

In terms of cooperation with the police, participants in the meeting looked into Standard Operating Procedures, immigration detention in the Centre for Foreigners and initiating a process of creating standard procedures for access to asylum procedures at international airports, reads the press release.

Interlocutors also discussed implementation of an Action Plan for cooperation with the MoI Training Center, where future police officers will be better educated about refugee rights.
