Toshkovski calls on MPs to amend law on travel documents

Skopje, 19 February 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski calls on MPs to amend the law on travel documents just as they did with the law on road traffic safety, in order to finally resolve the citizens' problem, noting that Macedonian passports bearing the country's old name are still being used in Germany, Switzerland, Albania, Kosovo and it is a shame that they are no longer valid in the country due to the current legal regulation. 

 

"It is a shame for Macedonia to restrain citizens within these bounds. If they try to go out of Macedonia, we do not allow them because the law is like that, whereas they can move freely with the Macedonian passport bearing the country's old name within Germany, Switzerland, Albania, Kosovo. The Ministry of Interior is obviously making utmost effort within the scope of its possibilities in this area, but I would like to reiterate that the solution to the citizens' problem is for 61 MPs to earn their wages and press the button to change the law on travel documents just as they did with the law on road traffic safety, and resolve the citizens' problem once and for all,"  Toshkovski told reporters during Monday's event to mark the Day of the Department for the Protection of Certain Persons and Facilities at the Ministry of Interior.

He urged MPs to act on the draft law he had submitted together with the law on driving licenses, regarding extension of the deadline for replacement of personal documents.
