Three staff members killed in shooting at Bosnian grammar school

Sarajevo, 21 August 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Three staff members have been killed in a shooting at a grammar school in the small northern Bosnian town of Sanski Most, police said on Wednesday.

The suspected perpetrator then turned the gun on himself and was taken to hospital with serious injuries, said the police in the Una-Sana region, where Sanski Most is located.

According to information from the Bosnian news website klix.ba, the victims were the headteacher, his secretary and an English teacher.

The suspected perpetrator is said to be the school caretaker. His motives were not immediately clear, but Bosnian media cited disagreements between the employee and the school administration.

It is currently the school holidays in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so no classes were taking place at the time of the incident. However, a larger number of teachers were reportedly on site and they were deeply shocked by the bloodshed, reported the website krajina.ba, which is based in the regional capital of Bihać.
