Three MIA journalists receive ‘Voice of the Invisible’ award
Skopje, 27 June 2022 (MIA) – The Macedinian Anti-Poverty Platform presented this year’s ‘Voice of the Invisible’ awards to the Media Information Agency – MIA’s Simona Srbinoska, Fatime Fazliyi and Svetlana Darudova for their stories on poverty, social exclusion and inequality. Srbinoska won the award ‘Voice of the Invisible 2022’ for her story on safety and dignity of drug users – victims of physical violence, affected by social stigma, which is about drug abusers who are not supported by the social environment and whose voice is not heard in the institutions because stigma and discrimination are too loud. Fazliyi won the award for her story on the criminal act of “stalking”, which is expected to be introduced in the new amendments to the Criminal Code which are stuck in parliamentary procedure. Darudova’s story is about Nikolcho Delov from Kavadarci, who proves, despite the severe deformities of the arms and legs, he wants to and can give his best, by playing on drums. ‘Voice of the Invisible’ awards were also presented to “Vidi Vaka” journalists Bjanka Stankovikj and Hristina Gjorgjievska, Radio MOF’s Ivana Smilevska and Emilija Petreska, and Info Kompas journalist Darko Shtargoski. In addition, the Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform awarded a certificate of appreciation to MIA’s journalist Angela Rajchevska for her selfless support and solidarity. The Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform presents the ‘Voice of the Invisible’ award which aims to promote journalism that covers the many aspects of poverty, social exclusion and inequality. The platform supports reporting that respects citizens and cares about their dignity. It voices support to journalists who make visible and give voice to citizens we don’t normally see and hear, with the ultimate goal to award socially committed journalists who are careful not to build stereotypes and who are not driven by sensationalism.
