Three killed after crane collapse at Turin construction site

Two cranes have collapsed at a construction site in Turin, killing three people. It was not initially known why the accident occurred on Saturday, according to the rescue services.

Two workers died at the scene of the accident, according to the fire brigade. Another man died in hospital, the ANSA news agency reported. A fourth worker and two passers-by were injured and taken to hospital. According to initial information, the accident occurred when the workers were in the process of erecting a construction crane. They were using a truck-mounted crane to do so. The crane may have broken or collapsed, pictures suggest. It crashed into the other crane on which the men were working. In Italy, accidents at work have repeatedly caused a stir and outrage in recent months. Even the government of Prime Minister Mario Draghi intervened to ensure more safety on construction sites.
