Beijing, 20 January 2024 (dpa/MIA) - At least 13 people have died and one was injured in a fire in a school dormitory in the central Chinese province of Henan, authorities said on Saturday.

Authorities did not provide any information on the identity of the fatalities and it was unclear whether any pupils were among them.

It was initially unclear how the fire started on Friday evening.

State broadcaster CCTV reported that the director of the school in the village of Yanshanpu was taken into custody. Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times spoke of managers of the school being detained.
