There will be no early parliamentary elections, says PM

Skopje, 19 September 2025 (MIA) - We won’t have early parliamentary elections because the representatives of the ruling coalition will win the local elections on October 19, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski at a meeting with journalists on Friday.

“The Government is stable and coherent, and the ruling coalition will win these local elections,” Mickoski said.

The PM stressed the Government has a four-year term during which it intends to realize the projects it has promised. “Early elections,” he said, “will only mean delaying [the projects] by at least six months.”

“As VMRO-DPMNE, early parliamentary elections might benefit us, but we are looking at things from a statesmanlike perspective, not a partisan one. If we were to hold elections, all projects that we need to implement would stagnate for at least six months,” Mickoski said.

Asked if he expects there to be any problems at the coming local elections and the issue of nationalism, the PM said he has no knowledge of any indications of planned incidents.

“Someone has nothing to offer to the citizens at elections except for nationalism, because for the past 22 years, DUI cannot be recognized by any realized project. So, it is logical for them to focus on the issue of nationalism, since that’s where they are strongest. They are oriented towards the past, while we are looking to the future and the realization of the promised projects,” Mickoski said.

Mickoski said the coalition would not lead a negative campaign at the local elections but would rather focus on a campaign with calming tones and offering realistic, feasible projects.

“Our work is on the ground with projects, while theirs is ethnic divisions and a return to the past,” Mickoski stressed.
