Skopje, 21 August 2024 (MIA) – Textbooks on all school subjects, except foreign language textbooks, will be distributed to schools by the start of the new school year, reiterated Education Minister Vesna Janevska.

“All the textbooks promised by this government will be ready ahead of this school year. Distribution is already under way. I’ll repeat that there will be no foreign language textbooks, which is not this government’s fault, it’s a shortcoming of the previous government after annulling a tender,” Janevska told reporters Wednesday after overseeing the reconstruction of an elementary school in the town of Kavadarci.

What interest parents and teachers most, she said, there will be history and society textbooks for fifth and sixth grade and history and geography textbooks for seventh grade,

Regarding the government’s announcement involving a body under the education ministry tasked with controlling the work of higher education institutions, Janevska said it is being set up.

“The body is being formed. We’ve asked the state education inspectorate to review the work of several universities and we’ve made utmost efforts to evaluate some universities this year. The process has been launched and it won’t stop and everything is according the law,” stated Minister Janevska.
