Taravari says he expects cooperation from other parties, negotiations to start in 2025

Gostivar, 27 December 2024 (MIA) - Health Minister Arben Taravari is optimistic over start of negotiations with the EU and expects support from the opposition. After Friday's visit to the Gostivar General Hospital, he stressed that the ruling majority is pro-European.

"I am optimistic that we will have mutual cooperation and I know that the ruling majority is pro-European. This assures me that the European integration processes will soon begin," Taravari said in response to a reporter's question on expectations from other political entities in terms of support in the process of constitutional amendments and the country's European integration.

Taravari said he also expects support from the opposition and is confident that all Albanian parties support constitutional changes and that none of them would vote against it.

"If anyone votes against, it will be a paradox. Ahmeti has been announcing the negotiations with the EU since 2002, for more than two decades. He even described it as flying in an airplane, adding that the flight is uncertain. However, I believe that next year, 2025, we will start negotiations with the EU," said Taravari.

He noted that the current state leadership is focused on European integration.

"I was glad to hear in the President's annual address in Parliament that Macedonia has no other path than the European one, and the Prime Minister reiterates the same. I believe the Prime Minister is right to call for some kind of guarantee from Washington, Brussels and Sofia that this will be the last condition. So we don't see the same thing as in 2018, when four or five ministers took pictures on a plane announcing the start of negotiations, but then complications arose," Taravari said.
