Gostivar, 30 May 2024 (MIA) – If early local elections are necessary, I will not accept the ministerial post as it would be unjust to the citizens to vote again in elections, Gostivar mayor Arben Taravari told reporters Thursday when asked about what stops him from joining the future government.

“The issue is whether it makes sense to hold elections twice in one year. I believe it is unfair for 35,000 people in Gostivar to vote in November this year and then again in October next year. Hence, if the existing Law on Local Self-Government remains unchanged, I will remain here. The only reason I have doubts is that I don't want to burden the citizens with voting twice in less than a year,” stated Taravari following his meeting with Austrian Ambassador Martin Pammer.

Taravari explained that he has not yet made a final decision and will announce it on Monday.

If he becomes a minister, he noted that one of the municipal councilors would need to replace him, but he believes that the Council Chairman, Valbon Limani, is a good candidate to take over.
