Skopje, 25 June 2024 (MIA) - Health Minister Arben Taravari told media on Tuesday he is aware of staffing shortages experienced by public health institutions and noted that he hopes there will be many new employments by the end of the year, especially in the health sector.
In answer to media questions during his visit to Health Center – Skopje, Minister Taravari said a solution must be found for the staffing shortages in public health.
“I think the proposal of the previous Minister, Mexhiti, was good, to provide full-time employment to 1.200 contractors that are working throughout the health institutions, and to immediately start planning new employment in the budget for next year. We will assess this and discuss it with the Finance Minister to see if it would be possible to implement it immediately,” Taravari said.
Taravari noted that the Ministry is also seeking a solution to keep and motivate resident doctors by hiring them.
“We must find a solution on how – if we hire them, to also make sure we keep them, and they stay, and not only to hire them and then have them leave after a year or two. I hope that by the end of the year we will have a great number of employments, especially in the health sector,” Taravari said.
The Health Minister also stated that he will propose a new Law on Health Protection in the near future, which would remove economic directors from the institutions where this position exists and ensure that there is only a “professional director”.
