Taravari denies secret meeting with Ahmeti and alleged offer

Skopje, 25 April 2024 (MIA) - Worth It coalition presidential candidate Arben Taravari has denied a report by Albania's Top Channel over his secret meeting and alleged offer from DUI leader Ali Ahmeti following the first round of the presidential elections.

The report claims that Taravari received a serious offer from Ahmeti to join the European Front, adding that Taravari confirmed the meeting.

A few hours after the defeat at yesterday's presidential elections, Alliance of Albanians leader Arben Taravari held a secret meeting with DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and caretaker PM Talat Xhaferi. Taravari confirmed the meeting to the domestic news outlets but would not give further details. Asked if he would accept Ahmeti's offer, Taravari said he would address the public in the coming days, Top Channel reported.

In a Facebook post, Taravari says the news is fake and adds it would not be a surprise if Ahmeti approached him with an offer.

"It was with regret to learn from a serious Albanian media outlet that I met with Ahmeti and other DUI officials last night, in order to entertain his offer. This is not true. Whoever briefed Top Channel is lying. I congratulated my team last night and today we are continuing our work towards change. I am used to Ahmeti's offers and think it would not be a surprise if he approached me, but this news is fake," says Taravari.

Taravari received 83,356 votes at yesterday's elections, trailing DUI candidate Bujar Osmani, who garnered 120,903 votes.
