Taravari ‘certain’ new gov’t will begin EU negotiations

Skopje, 4 June 2024 (MIA) - Arben Taravari, who is a part of the Worth It coalition which is currently negotiating with VMRO-DPMNE over the creation of a new government, said Tuesday he is certain that the new government will launch negotiations with the European Union. Taravari also told media he will “most likely” assume the post of Health Minister.

“I would never be a part of the government if I don’t see reforms, changes and progress of the country, you can be sure of that. I am happy that Macedonia is experiencing a complete change of government after 22 years. In 2002, DUI and SDSM came in power, while DPA and VMRO moved to the opposition. Now, after 22 years, once again the two parties in the government are moving to the opposition, which leaves room for real reforms and progress. I am certain that this government will begin negotiations,” Taravari told journalists when asked if Worth It agreed to enter the government without any conditions.

Taravari said the main points of the government program have been agreed and expects the agreement to be finalized in three to four days, but, he said, “this should be announced by the future prime minister”.

He added that he believes the country should also launch a debate over a change of Constitution once it begins negotiations with the EU.

“Macedonia needs a new Constitution,” Taravari said.
