Talks in Sofia to discuss electricity supply through Bulgaria
Skopje, 5 September 2022 (MIA) – Talks in Sofia will tackle supply of electricity through Bulgaria, as an exporter of electricity, as well as one of the demands of the Chamber of Commerce, which is to ensure smooth flow of electricity through the connections with Bulgaria during the entire winter period, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski told reporters at Monday’s news conference.
The Prime Minister noted it has been the case in the past at times of lack of electricity that transmission lines have not enabled smooth flow of electricity to North Macedonia, and for that reason it will be one of the topics of discussion. “We’re in constant communication with Bulgaria’s Ministry of Energy through the Economy Minister. There’s currently a caretaker government in Bulgaria, as Bulgaria is preparing for elections, but that was not an obstacle to maintaining intense and regular communication as two neighboring countries,” said Kovachevski. He added that talks will be dominated by topics that are key to dealing with the biggest crisis since World War II. However, he expects that the meetings in Sofia with Bulgarian Prime Minister Galab Donev and President Rumen Radev will also discuss other issues in addition to energy.
