Skopje, 28 December 2024 (MIA) - The Struga prosecutor's office has filed a motion for precautionary measures against Struga Mayor Ramiz Merko, namely confiscation of his passport and an obligation to report to the court, considering the flight risk after he faced another indictment on Friday.
The indictment relates to a memorial plate placed at the entrance of the municipal building earlier in the year, which incites ethnic hatred and division among Struga residents.
Considering that the defendant is a long-standing official, and the ongoing court proceedings in cases related to abuse of office, the prosecutor has assessed that he poses a flight risk, the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.
Merko is currently indicted in a total of nine cases in the Struga and Bitola courts, facing possible prison sentences in all of them.
