Stoltenberg to hold separate meetings with Vučić and Kurti
Brussels, 17 August 2022 (MIA) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will hold separate meetings with Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Brussels on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday’s new round of EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Stoltenberg will first meet with Vučić, and the two will hold a joint press conference at 3:30 pm. The NATO chief will also meet with Kurti, and the two will hold a joint press conference scheduled for 5 pm.
Last week Vučić said talks with Stoltenberg will be important due to the role of NATO and KFOR in Kosovo, Beta reports.
“Those will be further discussions about establishing good cooperation and good communication, which is very important in times of crisis. I hope we will have a good conversation. We have already had a phone conversation and we agreed to sit down and discuss in Brussels all problems in Kosovo, in particular in the north,” Vučić said.
A new round in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is due on Thursday, and the EU said leaders are expected to discuss all open issues, reiterating that Brussels finds it important “that both parties must end their hostilities at this point” and “act responsibly”.
Ahead of the dialogue Vučić said it was key to make a decision to establish the agreed-upon Community of Serb Municipalities in Kosovo.
Kurti said talks must focus on mutual recognition, adding that he didn’t want to discuss about the dispute over license plates and ID cards for Serbs in Kosovo.
