Speaker Xhaferi says he believes in Bulgaria dispute solution
Skopje, 17 February 2022 (MIA) – International agreements are ratified in Parliament in principle, however, it depends in what kind of an agreement it is. The institutional approach toward the act will be dictated depending on the form and content, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi has said when asked whether lawmakers should discuss a possible agreement with Bulgaria. In an interview with TV21, he said he “knows what I have to know” when asked whether he was being informed about details from the negotiations with Bulgaria. “The government is tasked with negotiating. I trust the process and I believe that an acceptable solution could be reached. Parliament should be engaged but at a later stage. At this point, the government should be involved in the negotiations,” he stated adding he was an optimist that an agreement should be reached. Asked whether the issue of language is on the negotiating table, Xhaferi responded: “As far as I know, no.” As regards the Goce Delchev declaration, filed by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE to Parliament, he said there was nothing disputable in it. “I personally have no issue with the document,” Xhaferi said. “The document filed is no declaration, it is a program defining how the institutions should mark the 150th birth anniversary of Goce Delchev. I have no influence over the content of the document,” the Speaker said adding the declaration should be first debated by a parliamentary committee before being included on the agenda of a plenary session.
