Speaker Mitreski, Italian Ambassador Silvestri discuss coming elections

Skopje, 2 February 2024 (MIA) - Speaker Jovan Mitreski met Friday with Italian Ambassador Andrea Silvestri and exchanged opinions on the Parliament's tasks leading up to the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Ambassador SIlvestri congratulated Speaker Mitreski on his election to the post and wished him success in the upcoming period, the Parliament said in a press release.

Mitreski briefed Silvestri that the 11th parliamentary elections are the first regular ones after a while, noting that the Parliament will operate in full capacity up to the start of the election campaign.

The Speaker said the next plenary session is scheduled for February 7, after the caretaker Government informed the Parliament it should proceed upon the already delivered materials.

Interlocutors exchanged opinions on the planned Electoral Code amendments based on the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations. In this context, Mitreski said he would schedule the presidential and parliamentary elections in line with the constitutional and Electoral Code deadlines, namely in mid-February. Afterwards, the State Election Commission is set to adopt the timetable for the election operations, reads the press release.
