Speaker Gashi meets Slovenian Ambassador Presker

Skopje, 19 June 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Wednesday with Slovenian Ambassador to North Macedonia Gregor Presker.

Welcoming the strong and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, Speaker Gashi expressed his gratitude for the continuous Slovenian support in achieving the country's two strategic goals, NATO membership and European Union membership, the Parliament said in a press release.

In addition, he extended congratulations on the election of Slovenia as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2024-2025 and their contribution as a small country to the goals of this organization. In terms of bilateral cooperation, he welcomed the fruitful and diverse cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, expressing hope that it will continue intensifying in the coming period.

Congratulating Gashi on his election to the post of Parliament Speaker and wishing him success during his term, Ambassador Presker reiterated the selfless Slovenian support and assistance on the reform path to full-fledged membership in the European Union.

"Slovenia has always acted as an advocate for the countries in the region for their European future within the EU as soon as possible, taking into account the positive benefits of its own membership," Presker pointed out.

Slovenian investments in the country worth EUR 500 million, the development aid of EUR 45 million for projects at the local level and the conditions offered for the study of about 1500 students from our country in Slovenia were singled out as a significant segment of the overall cooperation.

Interlocutors agreed that there is room and need for further promotion of mutual cooperation at the parliamentary level, in areas of mutual interest, but with a special emphasis on European issues, foreign policy and reforms in the educational process.
