Speaker Gashi meets new French Ambassador Le Rigoleur

Skopje, 6 September 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Friday the new French Ambassador, Christophe Le Rigoleur wishing him welcome and success in the post.

The meeting focused on the possibilities to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, North Macedonia's role as a NATO partner, and the country's Euro-integration process, the Parliament said in a press release.

Speaker Gashi highlighted France's commitment to the region in terms of integration processes, adding that North Macedonia completed the screening and showed a solid level of alignment with EU law, and that of particular importance now is opening the chapters as soon as possible.

Regarding NATO membership, Ambassador Le Rigoleur said he was impressed with North Macedonia for becoming part of the Alliance, especially with the assistance and support for Ukraine.

Interlocutors concluded that cooperation at parliamentary level between the two countries has improved in recent years, advocating its further deepening through parliamentary cooperation groups and visits. They also discussed the country’s active participation in тхе Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, as well as the MPs’ personal contribution to promoting the French language, culture, and democratic values with other countries in the Francophonie, reads the press release. ssh/ik/
