Skopje, 29 July 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi held a farewell meeting Monday with European Union Ambassador David Geer, whose term as ambassador is set to end.
“Interlocutors exchanged views on North Macedonia’s achievements so far in the EU-integration process, as well as the steps that need to be taken in the coming period to meet the criteria for full-fledged membership. Speaker Gashi voiced gratitude for Ambassador Geer’s contribution in the process and the cooperation during his term, which he assessed as very significant and fruitful,” Parliament said in a press release.
According to Parliament, Ambassador Geer welcomed Gashi’s active engagement in the short period since his election as Speaker of Parliament.
Speaker Gashi highlighted the role of the European Parliament and the EU Delegation in the country in the adoption of the new Rules of Procedure as a basis for greater efficiency and for facilitating procedures in the legislative house.
The Speaker and Ambassador also spoke about the conclusion of the process of establishing Parliament’s working bodies and interparty groups following the constitution of the new parliamentary composition.
