Spasovski: Traffic cameras to be placed in Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo and highways

Skopje, 29 December 2023 (MIA) - New traffic cameras will be placed in Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo, and the highways, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski told Friday's press briefing.

The process is underway, Spasovski added, pointing out that since the procurement is classified, more information will be available at the end of the procedure.

"The entire system is being upgraded now, which will be used both for public and traffic safety. Cameras will be placed in Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo and the highways across the country. We will also have mobile systems that will be placed across the country. The process is underway, but this procurement is classified, I cannot give any more details at the moment. Once everything is complete, we will announce whatever information we can," Spasovski said.

Asked whether attention is paid to preserving the privacy of persons currently receiving training, he said that each year trainings are adapted to keep up with new trends of work, adding that the key segment is strengthening the integrity and respecting human rights, including privacy. Still, the Minister noted, there are people who act opposite norms, which is seen by results from the internal control which clearly show an increased number of complaints, suspensions from work, etc.

In terms of the safety of journalists during the elections, Spasovski said a number of trainings have been held to ensure that the safety of journalist is at an appropriate level.

"Holders of the election campaign, i.e. the political parties, political entities, will also be key to the election campaign, regarding which I believe further meetings will be held with representatives from the Interior Ministry. Talks will focus in that regard for everyone to take responsibility, because the media is here to help us all, and not to be contravened," Spasovski stressed. ssh/nn/
