Spasovski says expert examination of firearms linked to double murder underway, sharing further information not good for ongoing investigation

Kumanovo, 11 December 2023 (MIA) - The expert examination of the two pieces of firearms, linked to the murder of 14-year-old Vanja Gjorchevska and 74-year-old Panche Zhezhovski, is underway. Once it is completed, the analyses will be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski said during a visit to Kumanovo on Monday.

Asked whether more precise details are available as to the location of the vehicle of 74-year-old Panche Zhezhovski, which was used to carry out the abduction of 14-year-old Vanja Gjorchevska, Spasovski said as the criminal charges are filed the full investigation is in the hands of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

"The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office is looking at all these details on the basis of the data collected, and data that will be collected by the Public Prosecutor's Office. So I wouldn't be able to share further information and that would not be good for the ongoing investigation, because we cannot conduct it in the media. It must be conducted in the Public Prosecutor's Office," said Spasovski.

As regards reports that an inspector who is connected to the investigation of the double murder has released information and photos, which are being spread in Skopje, and which can also hinder the investigation, Spasovski said that the public has heard a lot of information, speculation and politics in this period.

"That's why I further reiterate that it is not good. Regarding any activity that is illegal and no matter who has done it, whether it is an inspector or anyone else, of course there will be responsibility, if there is such a thing. However, I would not like to speak at the level of speculation, especially not about such a case," Spasovski said.

Asked if information about the double murder case can be in favor of the main suspect Ljupcho Palevski in terms of him not being extradited from Turkey, Spasovski pointed out that what he said earlier was exactly in that direction, i.e. when an investigation is underway, all speculations and everything that will be made public can only harm the investigation.
