Spasovski: Rapid Deployment Unit ready to respond to all tasks on same level as colleagues from Europe
Skopje, 23 August 2022 (MIA) – Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski addressed a ceremony on the Day of the Rapid Deployment Unit, which was held at the Gjorche Petrov Police Center on Tuesday.
“The Rapid Deployment Unit is a highly specialized police unit, with qualities established through clearly raised standards and professional criteria from all aspects – physical, mental, educational and technical. It is a unit ready to respond to all assigned police tasks, independently and coordinated, regardless of their complexity. With its professionalism, commitment, sacrifice, knowledge and skills, as well as wide operational performance, the unit is on the same level as police in Europe and the world,” Spasovski said, congratulating the unit’s anniversary.
This unit, he added, in the course of its growth took on the contours of the vision with which we started a few years ago – to build a new efficient security-police system that will fully serve the needs of all citizens.
Spasovski expressed assurance that the Ministry is aware of the importance of reforming and upgrading the police according to globally recognized standards, and will do everything within the framework of legal and financial possibilities to provide the highest possible quality of work, adding that he expects the members of the unit to invest their knowledge, skills, professional ethics and integrity in establishing a police force that every citizen will be proud of.
Speaking at the event, the unit’s commander Vice Stoleski said the Rapid Deployment Unit, which is celebrating its 21st anniversary, has been involved from its very beginnings in numerous complex risky security tasks, which have only helped to strengthen it and build it as a factor of the security of the citizens, and one of the pillars of the country’s stability.
He mentioned some of the tasks realized by the Rapid Deployment Unit last year, including tasks in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, ensuring public order and peace, assistance to other services at the Interior Ministry and other state bodies, as well as assistance to the people and institutions during elementary and natural disasters.
“Big plans for the unit continue in the period that comes. According to the latest trends – NATO membership and the country’s process of European integration, new opportunities for the development and modernization of the unit are opening up,” Stoleski said.
Plaques were awarded at Tuesday’s ceremony to Minister Spasovski for exceptional contribution and development in the modernization of the police, to Justice Minister Tupanchevski and employees for the successful cooperation and support, as well as to members of the unit for the achieved results and demonstration of high professionalism in performing the tasks.
Before the start of the ceremony, delegations of the Ministry of Interior led by Minister Spasovski, as well as other police members, colleagues, and members of their families laid flowers at the memorial of departed members of the Rapid Deployment Unit at the Gjorche Petrov Police Station.
