Spasovski: A group sending false bomb threats to be charged with terrorism

Skopje, 26 March 2023 (MIA) - A group of Macedonian citizens will soon be charged with terrorism and held accountable for false reports of bomb threats in schools and other facilities, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski said in an interview with Radio Free Europe.

"We have already filed a criminal complaint against a minor and we are practically onto a group of people who were involved in sending bomb threats electronically and using VPN addresses, etc. and we are in a position where very soon that whole group will be completely exposed, criminal charges will be filed for the crime of terrorism. This allowed us to practically make changes in terms of the protocols for the procedure," said Spasovski.

He noted that good preparation was needed and more time and intensive work has been dedicated not only to preparing the procedure, but also in terms of the investigations.

"We only detected the criminal group that dealt with such bomb threats, for a large part of the bomb threats for a longer period of time and for several institutions where the reports came from. Of course, there is another tendency, which is the geostrategic interests in the country," Spasovski said.

He confirmed when asked whether the group he mentions involved Macedonian citizens.

The Minister added that investigations are underway regarding all the institutions which reported hybrid and cyber attacks, noting that "there is major progress, data and information are being obtained".

"The very fact that we need to obtain this data through international legal assistance also indicates that there should be more time in this aspect," Spasovski told Radio Free Europe.
