Spanish tennis legend Manolo Santana dies aged 83
The Spanish tennis legend and four-time grand slam champion Manuel Santana has died at the age of 83, the national federation and organizers of the Madrid tournament said Sunday. Santana won Wimbledon in 1966 after two French Open triumphs, 1961 and 1964, and victory in New York at the 1965 US Open. Between 1980-1985 and 1995-1999 Santana was also the captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. Several prominent names from sport and other areas paid tribute to Santana, who won 72 tournaments in his career. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Santana was a "tennis legend and one of the best athletes from our country."
