Sofia Regional Prosecution Office launches pretrial proceedings for threats to Pendikov

Sofia, 27 January 2023 (MIA) – The Sofia Regional Prosecution Office has launched pretrial proceedings for death threats to Hristijan Pendikov, who was injured in an incident in Ohrid on January 19.

Pendikov reported to the Bulgarian Interior Ministry’s General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DGCOC) that “he had received a death threat in Macedonian language on a social network” and that photos of him have been published online with “calls for violence against him”, said spokesperson of Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Office, Siika Mileva.

According to Mileva, the DGCOC has been tasked with the investigation.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Bulgaria has made it its cause to launch proceedings against hate crimes, which the entire European community is also facing,” Mileva added.

Pendikov, who was physically assaulted and injured in the incident in Ohrid, was transferred to Sofia for treatment last week.
