Zagreb, 17 January 2026 (Hina/MIA) — The Slovenian government has decided to send two Slovenian army officers to Greenland, Slovenian news agency STA reported. According to N1 Slovenia, the officers could depart in the coming days.
"As I have emphasized several times, Slovenia consistently supports respect for international law in regulating relations between states anywhere in the world. Greenland belongs to its people, and only Denmark and Greenland can make decisions about its affairs," Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob wrote on X.
Slovenia is thus joining several European countries that have opted to deploy forces to Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory that U.S. President Donald Trump has again laid claim to in recent statements.
So far, France, Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Finland, and the United Kingdom have announced deployments as part of the "Arctic Resilience" reconnaissance mission, whose start date has not yet been set.
