Skopje to host EU-North Macedonia JPC meeting
Skopje, 27 June 2022 (MIA) – The European Union-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) will hold its 19th meeting in Skopje on Tuesday. Sonja Mirakovska for North Macedonia’s Parliament delegation and MEP Andreas Schieder for the European Parliament Delegation will co-chair the meeting. According to the European Parliament, the main topics of the Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting will include focus on the rule of law issues, environmental issues and health, civil society and media, good-neighborly relations and regional cooperation, as well as report on the Jean Monnet Dialogue. In addition, MEPs will exchange views on the relations between the European Union and North Macedonia with representatives of the Government of North Macedonia, of the European Commission and the European External Action Service. So far, the Parliament has confirmed that MEP Schieder will co-chair the meeting, but there’s no information yet on the other MEPs who will be part of the delegation arriving in Skopje. Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, the MEPs will meet with Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, and will hold separate meetings with coordinators of the parliamentary groups in the Macedonian Parliament including SDSM’s Jovan Mitreski, VMRO-DPMNE’s Nikola Micevski, DUI’s Arber Ademi, and Ilire Dauti of the Alliance for Albanians. According to the agenda, the meeting is scheduled to start at noon. Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, and EU Ambassador David Geer on behalf of the European Commission and the European External Action Service, will also address the meeting. The meeting includes three sessions, and is expected to end in the late afternoon.
