Skopje, 3 April 2024 (MIA) - A total of 312 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) have been registered in Skopje since the onset of 2024, Public Health Center's Lulzime Bajrami told MIA on Wednesday. The pertussis epidemic is still prevalent in the capital.
Infectious Diseases Commission spokesperson Zlate Mehmedovikj told MIA that the health authorities are monitoring the situation with whooping cough in Kumanovo after a spike in the number of cases.
"As regards pertussis, Kumanovo registers a spike in the number of cases. The Commission for Infectious Diseases is monitoring the situation and will come out with further recommendations if needed," said Mehmedovikj.
He added that flu and flu-like cases are waning in the country, noting that it is a usual frequency of the disease for this time of the year and should not be a cause of concern.
The Kumanovo Public Health Centre declared on Tuesday a pertussis epidemic in the city.
