Skopje, 17 January 2024 (MIA) - Current Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska was unanimously elected on Wednesday as new leader of the political party Nova Alternativa [New Alternative]. 

Arsovska pointed out it was time for politics to be a competition of ideas, projects, methods and an offer of a better life.

"Contrary to previous understanding of politics as a way of acquiring privileges to get rich faster, politics must not be a source of discord, of divisions. It should be a point of convergence and a bridge to overcome all problems through dialogue," she said. 

Arsovska noted that the Nova Alternativa party will have four postulates on which it will be based - justice, freeing the economy from the constraints of big capital and introducing equal opportunities, fight against corruption and crime and full digitization of public administration. She announced that the party's activities regarding the selection of its bodies and program will start next week.

Arsovska told reporters that the Nova Alternativa party will participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, pointing out that all coalition options remain open.

"All options are open, it's something that should be normally discussed. At this point, I believe it is too early for Nova Alternativa to be able to give this kind of answer in general, but what we know is that we will participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. We have many of our citizens who support us, who know what kind of people are in the party, people who can give a lot to the future of our country," she said. 

In response to a reporter's question on Nova Alternativa's coalition with SDSM, Arsovska said the party has decided to leave the coalition at the convention on Wednesday. 

Asked whether she sees herself as future president of the country, Arsovska said it was up to the citizens to decide on that. 

Wednesday's convention to promote Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska as new leader of the political party Nova Alternativa was also attended by SDSM Secretary General Mile Zechevikj.
