Skopje Mayor Arsovska calls for solidarity and unity on Liberation Day
Skopje, 13 November 2021 (MIA) – Let’s look toward the future and live in the present hoping we can bridge differences and make Skopje a city of solidarity and a city of coexistence again, Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska said Saturday at a ceremony marking Liberation Day in front of the government building.
“Today, we live in a free city, but it is the legacy left behind by those who had sacrificed everything for us to live in such a city,” she said calling on all Skopje residents to be part of the vision of a modern, European and better Skopje.
Earlier today, Mayor Arsovska met with WWII veterans, which is a traditional event to mark Liberation Day.
Skopje, which was liberated in 1944, recorded a historic victory because it had been liberated by its own army, divided into units of its own soldiers and commanders, said the head of the city branch of the Association of WWII Veterans.
Also, he called on all citizens, mainly the political parties, to raise above political positions and start building the future together.
Marking Liberation Day, Skopje Mayor Arsovska laid wreath at the monument dedicated to the liberators of Skopje and at the monument of General Mihajlo Apostolski.
Representatives of the President’s office, Parliament, the Government, the Defence Ministry and General Staff, and the associations of WWII veterans also laid wreaths.
