Skopje marks 80th anniversary of its liberation

Skopje, 13 November 2024 (MIA) – Delegations from the City of Skopje and Parliament will lay wreaths Wednesday at the monument of Skopje liberators at the Butel partisan cemeteries on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Skopje.
City of Skopje and Parliament delegation, including Dijana Ilievska, Slavjanka Petrovska and Daniela Belimova, will lay wreaths also at the monument of General Mihajlo Apostolski and the monument of the Skopje liberators in front of the government building.
The annual 13 November awards will be presented at a ceremony this evening at the Macedonian Philharmonic.
On November 13, 1944, the soldiers of the 42nd and 50th division of the National Liberation Army and the 16. Macedonian brigade liberated Skopje from fascist rule. After days of fierce and steady combat against the German 22nd Infantry Division and the “Angermiler” Brigade, the fighters victoriously marched in the city.
