Skopje court releases businessman on €11-million bail
Skopje, 4 January 2022 (MIA) – Businessman Jordan Kamchev, a defendant in the “Vodno Lots” case, is released from detention, the Skopje Appellate Court confirmed to MIA.
The Court’s council, it said, has decided to accept the EUR 11-million bail for Kamchev to be released. His passport remains in court, where he should report regularly.
Kamchev will be released on bail after procedures reporting the mortgage will be completed, said the Court.
The businessman was admitted to the Sistina hospital, which he owns, in late December. He has been in pre-trial detention since March 2021 after being considered a flight risk.
Former secret police chief Sasho Mijalkov was also released in late December after serving pre-trial detention while the “Vodno Lots” trial is ongoing.
Former prime minister Nikola Gruevski is also tried in absentia after being charged with embezzling EUR 1.3 million in party donations to buy land in Skopje’s Vodno elite settlement.
