Six dead following Russian attack on hospital in Ukraine's Sumy

Kiev, 28 September 2024 (dpa/MIA) - At least six people have been killed in an overnight Russian drone attack on a hospital in the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, officials said on Saturday.

Following an initial strike, rescue workers trying to bring patients to safety were targeted in a second attack, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram.

It was not possible to independently verify his claims.

However, Russian forces have used the tactic of double strikes in the past, including on rescue workers in Syria.

Ukraine's Air Force said the Russian army deployed 73 combat drones and four missiles to attack Ukraine overnight. Some 69 drones and two missiles were intercepted, it said.

Ukraine has been fending off an all-out Russian invasion since February 2022.
