Siljanovska-Davkova – Tajani: Italy an important political and economic partner 

Skopje, 10 September 2024 (MIA) - Opportunities for the promotion of cooperation on a bilateral and international plan, the ongoing situation regarding the Macedonian accession process for membership in the European Union, as well as current developments in the region, were discussed at a meeting Tuesday between President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

According to a press release from the President’s Office, Siljanovska-Davkova and Tajani voiced satisfaction with the active and continued political dialogue which, the President’s Office said, is a confirmation of the traditionally good and friendly relations between the two countries.

“Noting that membership into the European Union is our strategic priority, the President voiced gratitude for Italy’s continued support for the Macedonian Euro-integrations and consistent representation of the European Union’s enlargement policy,” the press release said. 

President Siljanovska-Davkova stressed the necessity of accelerating the EU accession process and voiced expectations that with the aid and support of its friends, the country will complete its European path more easily. 
 
In that context, the President affirmed the commitment to fulfilling the reform agenda, maintaining goodneighborly relations and active regional cooperation. 
 
Stressing that Italy is an important political and economic partner, President Siljanovska-Davkova voiced expectations about the promotion of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and further strengthening of security cooperation within the NATO alliance.
