Siljanovska Davkova - Milanović: Euro-integration process must be freed from shackles of bilateral issues

Skopje, 8 October 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met with Croatian counterpart Zoran Milanović at the sidelines of the Brdo-Brijuni Process in Tivat on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the firm and continued support in the Euro-integration process as the best way for the region's development and European stability.

Siljanovska Davkova said the Euro-integration process must be freed from the shackles of bilateral issues, noting the threat of rising Euro-skepticism due to the current impasse in the process, the President's Office said in a press release.

The President referred to the need for the EU to reaffirm its clear commitment to the region and the integration process to be based on the fulfillment of the Copenhagen criteria as the only requirements for Union accession.

Regarding regional cooperation, Siljanovska Davkova said its enhancement would make the region resilient to outside pressure.

As NATO allies, she added, we are committed to promoting and sharing the common values and responsibilities within the Alliance, contributing to international peacekeeping missions, and sharing joint regional and multilateral positions on peace and stability in the region.

Interlocutors reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations, including intensive political dialogue, constructive cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, and long-standing friendship, reads the press release.
