Siljanovska Davkova and Guterres meet in New York: Macedonian Euro-integration rightfully deserves to happen as soon as possible

Skopje, 27 September 2024 (MIA) - The Macedonian Euro-integration rightfully deserves to happen as soon as possible, stated the UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his meeting with President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova in New York on Friday.

In a statement to MIA, the President’s Office said that she pointed out the importance of UN principles during the meeting as the foundation of the international order, applicable to both small and large states.

Regarding Macedonian Euro-integration, Siljanovska Davkova said that bilateralization should not become an obstacle to the enlargement of the European Union, which was established as a peace process.

As reported by MIA’s New York correspondent, during the meeting, the UN Secretary-General Guterres expressed his disagreement with the obstacles that North Macedonia faces on its path to the EU. Guterres stated that he is a great supporter of Macedonian Euro-integration and underscored his personal solidarity with the country’s efforts to join the EU.

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova will meet with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on today.

This evening, she will meet with representatives of the diaspora in New York.
