Siljanovska Davkova - Aggeler: European integration has positive impact on democratic, economic consolidation of countries in the region

Skopje, 20 June 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Thursday with United States Ambassador Angela Aggeler, discussing possibilities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, Macedonian Euro-Atlantic integrations, as well as potentials of the Strategic Dialogue to concretize bilateral cooperation, the President's Office said in a press release. 

President Siljanovska Davkova extended gratitude for the overall U.S. support, stressing readiness to further deepen Macedonian-American friendship and mutual support towards achieving the Macedonian foreign policy goals.  

In that context, Siljanovska Davkova pointed out that as a stable partner and proven ally of the United States in the NATO Alliance, the country remains focused on common commitments to security, freedom and democratic prosperity, with active participation in joint activities in the fight against terrorism and other threats to peace in the world.

Underscoring that European integration has a positive impact on the democratic and economic consolidation of the countries in the region, Siljanovska Davkova pointed to the need for accelerated European integration. In that regard, she noted that the EU accession process must be meritorious and must not suffer political pressure from other member states.

The President highlighted the U.S. role and support in intensifying the reform processes, pointing out that the country remains committed to implementing reforms in the rule of law, the fight against corruption and reforms in the security sector, which are among the top priorities.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the outcome of the Ukraine peace summit, the impacts and security developments in the region, as well as policies in the interest of guaranteeing the peace, stability and prosperity of the wider region, reads the press release.
